Nicole Kidman is returning to the London West End by starring in the play – Photograph 51.
One of the great things about being in London is that you have the opportunity to see hollywood heavy-weights. One such star making her come back to the London West End is Nicole Kidman.
Photograph 51 is on at the Noel Coward Theatre from 5 September to 21 November 2015 and the best thing about its run is that it is being promoted with over 20,000 tickets for only £10!
What’s Photograph 51 about?
So we can check off both an A List star and a reasonable price ticket – but what is it actually about?
Here is its promotional blurb:
“The instant I saw the photograph my mouth fell open and my pulse began to race”
Does Rosalind Franklin know how precious her photograph is? In the race to unlock the secret of life it could be the one to hold the key. With rival scientists looking everywhere for the answer, who will be first to see it and more importantly, understand it? Anna Ziegler’s extraordinary play looks at the woman who cracked DNA and asks what is sacrificed in the pursuit of science, love and a place in history.
We understand that the play will charter Rosalind Franklin’s role in discovering the workings of DNA, but who was ignored when it came to being accredited with the achievement. We will be expecting a strong theme of sexism to run through its dialogue.
We can’t help but think just how relevant this is today. This particularly so in light of the the comments reportedly made by British Biologist, Tim Hunt which sparked the brilliant #distractinglybeautiful hastag response on social media.
